The Flir T420 has a very wide range of temperature sensitivity; this allows it to detect temperatures between -20°C to 650°C. This range makes this camera suitable for a wide range of different uses from diagnostics on electro-mechanical systems to veterinary analysis.

This thermal imager has a high resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, allowing highly detailed images to be captured this is aided by the high sensitivity at room temperature. The sensitivity is <0.045°C at 30°C allowing for incredible precision in most locations.

All of the T400 range from Flir allow for a range of different lenses to be fitted. The standard lens that comes with the T420 is 25˚ with 4x continuous zoom. This ability to select and change lenses means that the correct lens can be used for every job.

As well as containing a thermal camera the T420 has a 3.1 megapixel digital camera that allows for normal images to be taken in addition to thermal images. These images can then be overlaid using the inbuilt thermal fusion for highly detailed images. This camera is not restricted however to just producing static images;  the T420 is capable of producing MPEG-4 digital videos and directly streaming these videos to a computer or mobile device.

This thermal imager is made easy to use by having a 120˚ swivel lens allowing images to be taken even of the most difficult of locations. All of the functions on this thermal camera can be easily accessed with a 3.5” touch screen and cleverly designed buttons.

The T400 Range of thermal cameras from Flir also features METERLINK. This provides WiFi connectivity to computers and mobiles. This system also allows for other equipment such as moisture meters and clamp meters to send their readings directly to the thermal camera its self for addition to its notations. To help manage all of the information gathered on site the Flir T420 comes with the Flir tools PC software.

image quality, wifi, price, and ergonomics are great features but im a bit let down by the free software limitations and a bit of confusion about lens inter-change considering that I cant seem to be able to remove the standard lens on the device. Am I missing something here or did I get the wrong product. (Posted on 9 August 2013)
