The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars are optimised for hunting applications. They can be used to detect the body heat emitted by animals and provide the user with a thermal image allowing him/her to locate targets in dark and/or nighttime conditions. These thermal capabilities, as well as their rugged design and Wi-Fi connectivity, also make the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars well suited to search and rescue, as well as security applications.

Please see the video below for a quick introduction to this product.

Image and Video Capture

The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars feature a 17µm thermal sensor with a resolution of 384 x 288-pixels. They also include a 38mm lens and can display media to a resolution of 640 x 480-pixels. Thermal footage is captured at a 50Hz frame rate, ensuring that it is smooth, clear and in real-time. The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars have a thermal detection range of 1349m and a smooth and incremental zoom with a magnification range of 3.1x to 12.4x.

Furthermore, when used in Picture-in-Picture mode, the user can view a particular section of the image in a smaller, secondary box, allowing him/her to zoom-in on specific details, without losing the overall field-of-view of the primary image.

Media captured using the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars can be viewed in a choice of eight colour palettes, allowing the individual to tailor the thermal imager to the application. The colour palettes available on the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars are:

  • White Hot – standard colour palette
  • Hot Black- optimised for detecting wildlife/ human targets in nighttime conditions
  • Red Monochrome – prevents the escape of bright back-light from the eyepiece
  • Sepia – for long-range observation
  • Rainbow – enhances temperature differences
  • Ultramarine – enhances temperature differences
  • Red Hot - enhances temperature differences
  • Violet – for identifying objects quickly

In addition to this, the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars include selectable observation modes: City, Forest and Identification. Engaging these modes allows the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars to compensate for various ambient temperatures. As such, the Identification mode, for instance, can be activated to easily identify targets at greater distances.

Moreover, the inclusion of three calibration modes, Automatic, Semi-Automatic and Manual, also allows the user to ensure he/she is able to see the clearest, sharpest, most accurate image possible. Using these modes the operator can adjust the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars as necessary to reduce the effects of noise.

Media viewed using the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars can be recorded as it includes an integrated video and sound recorder. Subsequently, recorded images and footage can be saved to the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars' onboard, 8GB memory. The integrated memory has the capacity to store up to 150 minutes of footage or approximately 10 000 images.

Alternatively, media can be streamed to the user’s smartphone or tablet, or to social media using the integrated Wi-Fi module and Pulsar’s Stream Vision Software.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars can be wirelessly connected to a smartphone or tablet using the integrated Wi-Fi module and Pulsar’s Stream Vision Software. Once connected, media can be streamed from the binoculars to the connected smart instrument. This allows individuals in remote locations to view footage and images in real time, thereby facilitating collaborative and almost immediate decision making.

It is also possible to use the integrated Wi-Fi module to stream footage to Facebook, YouTube, Skype, Twitter or Viber and/or upload media to Google Drive or iCloud. Again this allows multiple individuals to access real-time footage and adds to the ease with which team decisions and/or operations can be conducted.

The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars' Wi-Fi connectivity also facilitates the user’s ability to operate the thermal imager remotely via a smartphone or tablet. This feature improves the stealth with which this instrument can be operated; this is particularly useful during hunting and surveillance applications.

Stadiametric Rangefinder

Providing the user with accurate information quickly is a characterising feature of this instrument. To this end, the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars include a Stadiametric Rangefinder which provides the user with information regarding the distance of the target from the binoculars. The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars use the size of the target to determine these distances and are able to provide the operator with this information within seconds. Again, this feature helps to facilitate quick decision making.

Durability, Longevity and Ease-of-Use

The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars are optimised for ease-of-use, as evident in their physical design. This thermal imager includes adjustable eyepieces allowing the user to alter the distance between them and thereby improve the comfort of the instrument. This variable interpupillary distance reduces eye fatigue and the possibility of double imaging.

Also adding to the ease and comfort with which this instrument can be used, is its AMOLED frost resistant display which retains the clarity, colour and high-contrast of captured media despite external temperatures. Its frost-resistant design makes the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars as effective in cold environments as they are in warm environments; they have an operational temperature range of -25°C to +50°C. These features add to the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars' suitability for outdoor use, as does its IPX7 rating which ensures that it is resistant to heavy rainfall.

These rugged features extend the physical longevity of the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars whilst their IPS5 battery pack improves their operational longevity. The rechargeable battery pack is easy to remove, change and replace, thereby reducing downtime, and can provide the Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars with up to eight hours of power.

The Pulsar Accolade XQ38 50Hz Thermal Imaging Binoculars are a durable, simple-to-use and comprehensive thermal imager. Hobbyists, hunters, security personnel, and search and rescue operatives will find this instrument of particular use.
