New firmware, an improved sensor, increased magnification range (4.5x to 18.0x) and a Sony display screen separates this updated thermal scope from its sister product the Pulsar Axion XM30 Thermal Imaging Monocular. The Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular is a thermal vision imager optimised for outdoor applications such as hunting.

Thermal Imaging Technology

The Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular features a 320 x 240px thermal sensor with 12µm pixel pitch. The reduced pixel pitch produces thermal images with smoother edges and more detailed thermal mapping; the Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular is better at recognising and identifying targets compared to other thermal monoculars with an equivalently sized sensor and a 17µm pixel pitch.

Additionally, the Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular has a horizontal field-of-view of 7.3° x 5.5° and a detection range of 1200m. It also features a high frame rate, 50Hz, ensuring that fast and dynamic motion can be viewed comfortably.

Features, such as magnification, selectable colour palettes, PIP mode and a Stadiametric Rangefinder, all work to improve target identification and situational awareness.

Magnification Range

The Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular has a magnification range of 4.5x to 18.0x and can be used to improve focus as well as zoom-in on image details.

Picture-in-Picture Mode

The PIP mode can be used to magnify particular areas of the infrared image without losing the overall FOV. The magnified section is indicated at the top of the display.

Colour Palettes

Eight selectable colour palettes can be used to highlight particular details in the infrared image. The colour palettes can be used to enhance images/ footage taken in various conditions.

Stadiametric Rangefinder

The Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular uses the estimated heights of objects to calculate the distance between the infrared camera and the target.

Ergonomic, Rugged Design

Thermal images are viewable via the 1024x768 AMOLED HD micro-display. The display is frost-resistant and will continue to perform effectively in a wide range of temperatures: -25°C to +40°C. This, combined with its robust magnesium bodyshell and IPX7 certification, makes it suitable for use in challenging outdoor environments and in all seasons. This Pulsar thermal monocular is fully waterproof and, therefore, protected against precipitation such as snow and heavy rainfall. It will remain functional even after submersion in three feet of water for thirty minutes.

This thermal imaging monocular has an operating time of up to four hours. The Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular’s Display Off mode and instant start-up work to conserve the monocular’s battery life and thereby extend its operating time. The Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular is powered by a progressive, autonomous B-pack mini power supply with a quick-detach APS 3 battery pack.

Easy to Use

In addition to a practical and durable physical design, the Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular has also been constructed to include an easy-to-use interface. It features an easy-to-read, icon-driven, alpha-numeric status bar at the bottom of the display. Furthermore, as menu items and options are indicated on a contrasting gradient substrate, it is easy to simultaneously monitor settings and the target.

Storage and Streaming

The user can ensure that the Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular is equipped with the latest software using Pulsar’s free Stream Vision App. This app can also be used in conjunction with the user’s smartphone/ tablet and Wi-Fi to operate the Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular remotely.

Furthermore, the Pulsar Stream Vision App allows the user to stream thermal footage in real-time from the Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular to his/her smartphone or tablet. Alternatively, this app can be used to upload IR footage directly to YouTube.

It is also possible to save IR images and thermal videos to the integrated 16GB memory. The Pulsar Axion XM30S Thermal Imaging Monocular’s built-in video recorder and still image capture enables the recording of thermal images and videos.
