FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software – Online Activation

Overview

FLIR’s ResearchIR 4x Max Software can be used to record, chart, graph, plot, analyse, export and share thermal images and footage captured by FLIR’s R&D and scientific thermal cameras.

This software will automatically communicate with the thermal camera connected to the user’s PC. Compatible thermal imagers can be connected via a USB, Firewire, Gigabit, Ethernet or Camera Link connection. As the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software is compatible with a vast majority of FLIR’s research and development and scientific cameras the user needs only learn how to operate one software program for use with all of his/her FLIR IR cameras. It is possible to use the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software to analyse captured thermal images and footage, as well as capture and analyse thermal media in real-time. This program supports high-speed burst mode; this means that when the connected camera is programmed to capture images using this method the photographs will be saved to the computer’s RAM. When media is captured using a slower logging rate, the footage and/or images are saved to the computer’s hard drive. The frame rate and recording period are user-adjustable.

The FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software is equipped with a number of analysis tools and measurement functions designed to enable specific and precise analysis of thermal media. Analysis tools include boxes, lines and spots that can be added to the footage. Using the information contained within the applied analysis tool, the individual can create graphs, histograms, temporal plots and plot-line profiles, facilitating precise and specific analysis. Additionally, the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software includes a Super-framing Analysis Tool for analysing areas with large temperature differences; please see the following video. 

The FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software also features a variety of measurement functions including the following

  • Emissivity Calculator: calculate or adjust the level of emissivity
  • Measurement Function Editor: graph user-created mathematical functions on a temporal plot

The video below briefly explains how to use the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software’s measurement functions. 

Further to this, using the Spatial Calibrator the user can calibrate the length and area units (mm, m, inches, feet) used as part of the measurement functions. This calibration feature can also be used to calibrate image pixels.

Additionally, the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software includes customisable thermographic and radiometric calibrations. The user is guided through these calibrations by the step-by-step wizard.

Adding to the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software's customisability is its compatibility with MathsWorks® MatLab, which scripts directly to the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software, as this allows the user to access customised image analysis and processing. Moreover, the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software features a customisable interface allowing the user to view the media, statistics, charts and graphs most relevant to the application.

In addition to viewing and analysing relevant media and/or data, the FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software is able to export information in a number of formats. All exported information can be further analysed using third-party software. The user is able to export graphs to clients or colleagues in a Bitmap or CSV file format. Similarly, it is possible to export image frames to relevant persons in a CSV, 32-bit or Matlab® files.

Alternatively, it is possible to send data and relevant media, along with a selection of the software’s analysis, measurement and graphing features to clients and/or colleagues in a Self-Viewing File (SVF). SVFs can be opened on all Windows computers with or without FLIR ResearchIR 4x Max Software; they allow relevant persons to view the information and analyse it using a selection of the same tools used by the sender.
